Poland cancels visit of Pak senators

* Offers $290,000 bounty for killers of Polish hostage

WARSAW/ISLAMABAD: Poland’s Senate on Tuesday called off a visit by Pakistani senators after their country’s negotiators failed to save Polish hostage Piotr Stanczak from execution by his Taliban captors.

The delegation had been due to visit Warsaw from February 12 to 14, according to a statement by the Polish Senate, AFP reported.

Polish officials charged that elements within the Pakistani government shared blame for the killing, AP reported.


Pakistan’s top diplomat in Poland rejected the accusation that members of the Islamabad government were sympathetic to extremists. Meanwhile, the government on Tuesday stopped a four-member Senate delegation from proceeding to Poland after the Polish Senate called off their visit. Senate Secretary Raja Amin said the visit was postponed on Monday evening.

Warsaw/Islamabad, Feb. 11 (ANI): Polands Senate has called off a visit by Pakistani senators after Pakistan failed to save Polish hostage Piotr Stanczak from execution by his Taliban captors.

The delegation was due to visit Warsaw from February 12 to 14, according to a Polish Senate statement, the Daily Times reported.

Polish officials have accused some elements within the Pakistan Government of being sympathetic to the Taliban.

Pakistans top diplomat in Poland, however, had rejected the charge.

Islamabad on Tuesday stopped the four-member Senate delegation from proceeding to Poland.

The Polish government had offered a 290,000-dollar bounty for information leading to the capture of Taliban who beheaded Stanczak. (ANI)
