Excellent analysis. As a Pakistani now living abroad, I always feel that I should be doing something about what's happening there. Unfortunately, the forces at work in Pakistan at this time are too strong to resist, let alone defeat. The country is literally tearing itself apart from inside out. No one (including corrupt politicians, pious/intellectual army, media, judiciary, elites, public servants or rather real rulers, religious outfits/leaders, and those from the general public who condone them or are impressed by them) can escape the blame for this downturn.

All of us, who have no vested interest in the failure of Pakistan, can do excellent analyses and single out all root causes of this apparently nonsensical self mutilation, can do practically nothing to halt it.

The inevitability of its demise is becoming more and more apparent. From the overall slump in the global economy to global warming to diminishing natural resources (especially water,) to hopelessness of general public are all contributing to this rapid fall. It is only a matter of time when Pakistan, as we know it, will no longer exist. Praying is all we can do now.
