Malegaon blast: Military school head questioned

MUMBAI: Administrator of the Bhonsala Military School, Nashik, retired Colonel Shailesh Raikar, had attended a meeting along with the accused Retired Lt Col SS Raikar of the Malegaon blast 15 days prior to the September 29 explosion that killed six people in the textile city of Maharashtra.

Raikar is being questioned by anti-terrorism squad (ATS) of the Mumbai Police which is probing the blast. ATS officers are, however, reluctant to speak as what was discussed at the meeting. Raikar was brought to Mumbai from Nashik late on Friday evening by an ATS team. Five people have been arrested so far.

Sources said serving colonel Prasad Purohit, also being questioned by the ATS, participated in the meeting along with arrested accused retired major Ramesh Upadhyaya in Nashik. Some other "meetings" were organised at Deolali near Nashik, said an officer, refusing to disclose the nature of the meeting. "Upadhyaya and other accused had organised at least three meetings prior to the blast," an officer said.

The source said ATS is planning to subject some of those detained to a series of forensic tests to establish if they had any role in the blast. Three arrested accused — Upadhyaya, sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Sameer Kulkarni, were on Saturday subjected to psychological profiling and polygraph tests at Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory.

An FSL source said the Psychological Profiling tests were over by 4.30pm and then the suspects were subjected to a polygraph test. "Now it'll depend on the reports of these tests what further tests can be conducted on the accused," said a source.

An ATS source said they were looking for one Ramnarayan Singh, an associate of the arrested accused. Ramnarayan is suspected to have participated in the blast conspiracy. Those being questioned include Purohit, Raikar, another retired colonel Ramesh Gaidhene, Dilip Nehar and Dharmendra Bajrangi. Gaidhene, who earlier worked with the military intelligence, is also accused of participating in the meeting. (Times of India)


We have only question: If the Indian Police can arrest serving and retired Army Officers for their alleged involvement in acts of terrorism and sectarianism in India, why can't our own Pakistani Police arrest General Hamid Gul, General Asad Durrani, and other serving and retired officers of ISI for their involvement in sectarian and fasadi (wrongly known as jihadi) terrorist activities in Pakistan and other countries, e.g. their support of Laskhar-e-Toiba, Jaish-e-Muhammad, Sipah-e-Sahaba and Laskhar-e-Jhangavi.

Suspect linked to PAF bus attack arrested

LAHORE: Intelligence agencies arrested an Al Qaeda-linked militant and six of his
associates in connection with an attack on an air force bus in November that killed eight people and wounded about 40 others, a security official said on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as Ahsanul Haq, a retired army major, was caught in Lahore last month following the November 1 attack in Sargodha, the official said. Haq told security forces the name of the bomber, who belonged to an outlawed militant group (Sipah-e-Sahaba), the security official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media

LAHORE - Capital City Police claimed to have arrested eight alleged terrorists involved in suicide attacks at Sargodha Police Line and Sargodha PAF bus in 2007.
The police also recovered 4 suicide jackets, 10 grenades, 2 grenade launchers, two klashnikoves and ammunition from their possession.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Pervez Rathore disclosed this while addressing a press conference at District Police Lines on Friday. DIG Investigation Lahore, SSP Operations and other senior police officers were also present there.

CCPO said that he had called a meeting of senior police officers in which a strategy was evolved to apprehend the terrorists. A special team comprising senior police officers was constituted which traced the terrorists and arrested them.
The terrorists who belonged to a banned organisation were planning to get their companion Umer Farooq alias Maavia released from jail.

CCPO claimed that the criminals wanted to attack at important and sensitive buildings in Lahore and other cities of the province.

He termed the arrests of these terrorists a great achievement of Police. He disclosed that the base camp of the terrorists was in Wana.

During preliminary interrogation, the alleged terrorists confessed that they wanted to kidnap a retired major of Sargodha for ransom to carry on the activities of the organisation.

Further investigations are underway, he said, adding that a team of senior police officers was constituted to trace out the terrorists.

The senior police officers SSP Zulfiqar Hameed and SP, CRO Jehanzeb Nazir Khan supervised the police team, which ultimately arrested the terrorists.

Bhosla Military School denies training sadhvi

Nagpur: The Bhosla Military School has categorically denied imparting terrorist training to the Malegaon bomb blast accused or anyone else in the past, terming media reports to that effect as part of irresponsible and malicious propaganda.

“We heard the names of the Malegaon bomb accused, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, for the first time when reports about their arrest appeared in the print and electronic media in the last some days," the school's Nagpur branch director Satish Salpekar said on Tuesday.

The Bhosla Military School in Nashik and its branch in Godhni near Nagpur prepare students for entrance exam to the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the State Services Board examinations and the training measures up to the 'B Certificate' level of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), he added.

Salpekar, however, admitted that the school had allowed the Bajrang Dal to use its premises and apparatus for its 'personality development camp' in 2001 free of cost.

He also confirmed media reports that retired army officer Major Prabhakar Kulkarni, presently under the scanner of the Maharashtra police's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for imparting training in the use of RDX to the Malegaon bomb accused, was associated with the school in Nashik, first as its commandant and then as secretary of the educational institute that runs it till a few years ago.

“But my information is that ATS investigating officers never took him in their custody though they did visit his Nashik residence last week,” Salpekar said.

He clarified that the two other ex-servicemen reportedly under ATS probe, Maj Ramesh Upadhyay and Maj Y D Sahasrabuddhe, were never associated with the Bhosla Military School.

The ATS has made a number of arrests in the past week following the simultaneous low-intensity blasts in Malegaon in Maharashtra and Modasa in neighbouring Gujarat on the night of September 29.
